Leg Up Alliance presents six digital collaborations between Canadian composers/lyricists and choreographers this Saturday!

I’m so thrilled to share a second dance collaboration that I’ve been involved with! Leg Up Alliance, a non-for-profit organization that helps emerging artists ( spearheaded by Kayla James) has paired six choreographers with composer/lyricists with the goal of creating new dance pieces to new songs while shining the spotlight on some incredible dancers across the country.

My brilliant writing partner Barbara Johnston had the idea to submit our song“Bathing Suit”, from a show we created last year called Be Kind, Rewind. Sung by Kelsey Verzotti and mixed/ arranged by James Ervin, it’s a song about summer and swimming and loving the skin you’re in. We got to see a sneak peek of the finished number yesterday, and we were blown away by what we saw. Special shout-out to choreographer Michele Shuster for pouring so much love into our song!

These pieces premiere Saturday June 20th at 7pm. Proceeds from ticket sales ( donation based) go to Nia Centre for the Arts in support of the ongoing conversations surrounding racial injustices in the theatre world.
