I’m overjoyed to be partnering with The Regent Park School of Music and The Musical Stage Company for Make Me A Song, 2019. This year, Julie Tepperman and I are working closely with RPSM’s four kids’ choirs. In a series of workshops, we’ll be interviewing the students, collecting their ideas and building stories around topics that are important to them. After this process, we will create a 40-minute narrative oratorio which the choirs will learn and perform at a major Toronto festival in June 2020. By performing a narrative musical in concert, the participants foster musical, acting, and storytelling skills, and help to create and shape original Canadian musical works. My job is to create music and lyrics for the piece, and Julie will be in charge of the story. I can’t wait to see what we make together!
